It’s been three years since my daughter was born, and three years since I recorded the original Birthday Jazz mix. In this short time our lives have been transformed—in predictable ways, sure, but also in some surprising ones too. If I’ve learned anything, it’s that nothing stays the same for long in a child’s life, and this follow-up mix is my attempt to commit to tape all the excitement and joy of life with Blanca at the wonderful age of three. Volume 1 was cool and mellowed, but this mix is much warmer and energetic, starting with some nice bossa and samba, moving through afro-latin jazz to jazz funk. I consider every one of these records timeless, so hopefully this will be something that will still sound fresh to her ears when she’s old enough to fully appreciate it. |
